Early 1960s ?? rare first version, 10.5" - 27 cms long, battery operated, Bandai Beetle Sedan model number 4022 with opening drivers door, opening sunroof, visible engine with rotating fan, extending radio aerial, working light up headlamps, and of course bump & go action. It has a tin plate battery compartment, the later ones had a plastic compartment, also the hinge mechanism for the driver's door is a separate item attached by rivets to the door and body. Later ones had simpler stamped hinges formed as part of the door and body. No doubt to reduce costs, also the box is the early type with a simple lift off lid. Rare to find version of this 10.5" long battery operated Bandai, as far as I know it was only made in red, whereas the version without opening door came in four or more colours and had other changes, such as deletion of light up headlamps but with light up bulb installed in the engine bay and sunroof removed. Note the driver's legs litho printed onto the tinplate, somewhat amusingly disconnected from his body.
